Bruce Brown, a volunteer with a humanitarian group called Vancouver Island Supports Ukraine, received a phone call from an unfamiliar voice over the weekend. The woman on the other end of that call spoke with a British accent and sounded elderly. What she said caught Brown off guard. “She said that she had lived through the blitz in London during World War 2 and she knows what war is all about,” said Brown.

With President Trump sending mixed signals on America’s support for Ukraine’s war effort, it appears the conflict’s end is nowhere in sight. “People are exhausted for sure,” said Uliana Kolesnyk, who lives in western Ukraine. “It’s been three years.”She believed when the war broke out in her home country in 2022 that it would come to an end within the first year.

The pair will soon open a new business by the name of the Blenkinsop Community Agricultural Centre, which will be a privately funded community garden on a massive scale. In recent weeks, crews have been busy putting up fencing and preparing the site. “Right now, we’re installing irrigation, trying to bring water to every single plot that we are going to have,” said Smith.

‘I’m stepping up’: Vancouver Island humanitarian group getting help to purchase a school bus for students in UkraineA Vancouver Island humanitarian group is planning to return to war-torn Ukraine next month to deliver much needed aid to the people of that country. It will be the fourth trip for the team, which has partnered with five communities in the west of Ukraine, along with two separate hospitals.
