    Despite a protective order, Russell Payne killed his wife, father-in-law, and injured a family friend before taking his own life in a Walker County murder-suicide on March 8. Payne, 54, shot and killed his 54-year-old wife, Jacklynn Payne, and his 79-year-old father-in law, retired Georgia State Trooper Eugene Denny on Saturday night, March 8. Russell Payne also shot and severely injured a family friend before turning the gun on himself and committing suicide.

    TAWAS CITY – Alexander James Bessey, 21, Tawas City, has been charged with four felony counts and one misdemeanor, following an alleged incident which occurred on Feb. 11. As reported in last week’s edition of this publication, it was at about 5:40 p.m. that evening, when troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) West Branch Post responded to a disturbance at a home in the 1200 block of McArdle Road.

    ROCK ISLAND — The death toll in a Highway 28 collision Sunday outside Rock Island has swelled to four. Authorities say the fourth died at Confluence Health Hospital in Wenatchee after three were pronounced dead at the scene. According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision occurred about 1:30 p.m. two miles east of Rock Island when a westbound 2007 Toyota Camry driven by a 17-year-old East Wenatchee girl attempted to pass a Chevrolet Traverse and then struck a passenger bus head-on.

    A week from Thursday, the East-West Shrine Bowl will feature three Missouri Tigers. Per the Shrine Bowl’s X account, former Missouri quarterback Brady Cook officially accepted an invite to participate in the game’s centennial edition. This will be Cook’s second pre-NFL Draft all-star event, as he took part in the Hula Bowl on Jan. 11 in Orlando, Florida.
