SPOKANE — A man accused of distributing fentanyl and methamphetamine in Okanogan County and throughout Eastern Washington was convicted by a federal jury this week. Luis Esquivel-Bolanos, a 45-year-old Mexican national, was found guilty Wednesday of five counts in U.S. District Court including conspiracy, distribution and possession of narcotics.

EAST WENATCHEE — Douglas County's chief prosecutor has found four Wenatchee Valley police officers acted lawfully when they fired gunshots at an East Wenatchee man who fired his own weapon at the Wenatchee Veterans Affairs clinic. In a letter decision issued April 11, Prosecutor Gordon Edgar declined to file criminal charges against the three Chelan County sheriff's deputies and one Wenatchee police officer who fired on Troy A. McMaster, 54, during a confrontation in December 2023.

WATERVILLE — Confluence Health is asking a Douglas County judge to throw out a lawsuit by former employees once and for all, citing a recent precedent from the Washington Supreme Court. A group of 82 former health workers sued Confluence in 2023, alleging discrimination after they were terminated for refusing a required COVID-19 vaccination.

A Chelan County judge handed out penalties Monday in two long-running child pornography cases against Leavenworth defendants. Michael J. Ross, 55, has been jailed since his arrest in February 2023, after sheriff’s detectives said he’d shared child sexual abuse material online. Ross, a registered nurse with Cascade Medical Center, eventually pleaded guilty two months ago to three counts of child porn distribution, plus a criminal mischief charge.

Confluence Health is asking a Douglas County judge to throw out a lawsuit by former employees once and for all, citing a recent precedent from the Washington Supreme Court. The Wenatchee Valley hospital and clinic system now says the state Supreme Court case Suarez v. Washington, decided last July, means the lawsuit should be tossed from court.
