FAYETTEVILLE — A proposal to create a safe camp for residents experiencing homelessness was narrowly rejected by the City Council on Tuesday. Council members voted 5-3 to reject the resolution from Council Member Sarah Moore. It would have allocated $630,000 from the city’s general fund to establish a safe camping initiative for unsheltered residents who were recently displaced from wooded property the University of Arkansas owns along 19th Street.

FAYETTEVILLE — Mayor Molly Rawn plans to form a task force to address homelessness following a town hall held on the subject this week. Rawn also intends to present a proposal to the City Council to create a chief housing officer position in time for the next council meeting.
