    FAYETTEVILLE — The city will change the names of two neighborhood streets that have ties to slavery. The City Council voted 7-0 Tuesday to change the names of Plantation Avenue and Chattel Street in a neighborhood on the west side of town, north of Wedington Drive and west of 54th Avenue. The new names will become Garden Avenue and Reflection Street, respectively. The name change will go into effect in January 2026.

    FAYETTEVILLE — Planning commissioners on Monday narrowly rejected a development plan for a proposed student-oriented housing project on Dickson Street. The commission voted 4-3 to deny the development plan for a seven-story building on Dickson between Block and Church avenues. Trinitas Ventures in Lafayette, Ind., proposed 185 units with 611 bedrooms and 800 square feet of retail space at the building’s northwest corner. Monday marked the fourth time the commission had discussed the plan.

    FAYETTEVILLE — The Advertising and Promotion Commission has selected a travel destination professional from Wyoming to lead the city’s tourism bureau. Commissioners voted 6-0 Monday to pick Ryan Hauck, executive director of Cody Yellowstone in Cody, Wyoming, as the next chief executive officer of Experience Fayetteville, the city’s tourism and marketing agency. The commission governs the agency.
