First We Feast

There's an ancient Japanese saying, hara ga hette wa ikusa wa dekinu, which means, "If you're hungry, you can't go to war." While we might see ourselves more as friends than adversaries, we definitely agree with the idea behind this phrase: First we feast! It evokes the image of Norse warriors gathering around a big table for a lively feast filled with mead (and don’t forget to say hello to our mascot, Vik, at the top of the page). Even in today's world, "first we feast" feels like a perfect motto. As our society becomes increasingly captivated by food, it seems to be the foundation for many of our activities. We come together with our friends for dinner, then head out to a bar, enjoy a concert, or simply chat about whatever is on our minds. Established in 2012, First We Feast sees food as a powerful way to explore pop culture, music, travel, and beyond. This site, created by COMPLEX, won the 2014 James Beard Award for best food blog. So, let’s dig in!
