IMSA

The International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) is a governing body for sports car racing in North America, located in Daytona Beach, Florida, and operates under the ACCUS branch of the FIA. It was founded in 1969 by John Bishop, who was previously the executive director of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), along with his wife Peggy, with support from Bill France Sr. of NASCAR. In 2014, IMSA became the official sanctioning body for the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, which is the top series formed from the merger of Grand-Am Road Racing and the American Le Mans Series. IMSA functions as a division of NASCAR.
