    If you’re in the mood for a little scenic drive, you might consider a pilgrimage of sorts down to Southern Humboldt this weekend since it’s the last time you’ll be able to cross under the iconic green steel beams of the Honeydew Bridge. Earlier today, Humboldt County’s Department of  Public Works posted the nostalgia-inducing clip above and note that bridge replacement begins this coming Monday, May 12.

    (AUDIO) Food For People on KSLGIn an interview this week with KSLG’s Dale Cooper, Food For People’s David Reed estimated that the beloved Humboldt County nonprofit now provides food to around 21,000 locals, constituting roughly 15 percent of Humboldt County’s population. Needless to say, it’s a rough time out there for a lot of people, so your food donations are very appreciated. And hey, Food For People is going to make donating food extra easy for you this week.

    Highway 36 update from Caltrans:36 OPEN AHEAD OF SCHEDULE: Route 36 has OPENED east of Swimmer’s Delight in Humboldt County as we respond to a slide. Travelers should expect delays as we still have a lot of work to do. PLAN AHEAD: On Friday, this location will be OPEN until 9 a.m. Then traffic will be held for 2-hour stretches, with traffic allowed through at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., and then OPEN after 5 p.m. for the rest of the evening.

    Above: Today the Sequoia Park Zoo released some cute video of Ishŭng that didn’t have any audio. So we added some. Y’all have been very patient. Now it is time. Earlier today the Sequoia Park Zoo announced that Ishŭng — their new, photogenic black bear — has completed her quarantine and is ready for her closeup. Today she is exploring her new digs and negotiating cohabitating terms with new roomie Tule.

    Highway 36 remains closed near Swimmer’s Delight, with Caltrans still saying it will be “days” until the roadway is ready for traffic again. Why so long, you wonder? Caltrans has posted a few aerial shots of the problem area and, yeah, we get it. See below.
