Photos (unless noted otherwise): Andrew GoffIt’s safe to say that the Anti-Donald Trump/Elon Musk protest that stretched for blocks around the county courthouse on Saturday was among the largest political demonstrations Humboldt has ever seen. In recent memory, only the Headwaters Rallies of the ‘90s, the Iraq War protests of the ‘00s and the Women’s March that marked the dawn of the first Trump presidency rival the day’s turnout locally. The day certainly felt historic.

A line forms outside the Adorni Center roughly an hour before doors open. They’re expecting a packed house at the Adorni Center on Sunday, where Jared Huffman is set to take center stage for a town hall meeting at 1 p.m. The congressman is expected to give constituents an update on how he sees the state of D.C. politics while also answering some questions. Multiple Humboldt Bay Fire engines have responded to Surfside Burger Shack on Fifth Street in Eureka to battle a fire inside. Witnesses at the scene report that crews seem to have the blaze under control and are now mopping up. The commotion caused the evacuation of those at Saturday night’s show at the Savage Henry Comedy Club two doors down. One attendee called in the fire. No one is believed to have been inside Surfside Burger Shack and no one at the comedy show was injured.

On Wednesday morning, Sunny Brae Middle School was placed on lockdown for a short period. Arcata School District just posted the following alert:Attention S.B.M.S. Families,Sunny Brae was placed on lockdown this morning just prior to the start of school due to an anonymous phone call threat. Police responded and have determined we can end the lockdown. Students are returning to class. We understand that some families may want to pick up their child.
