Nebraska Public Media, which was previously known as Nebraska Educational Telecommunications (NET), serves as a network of public radio and television stations across Nebraska. This network is managed by the Nebraska Educational Telecommunications Commission (NETC). All television stations are part of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), and the radio stations are affiliated with National Public Radio (NPR).

    Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen has announced he's running for a third term in office. The Republican was joined by U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer and several state senators, including Speaker John Arch during an event Friday in the State Capitol Rotunda. Evnen first took office in 2019 and oversaw the implementation of Nebraska’s voter ID law. He said that under his leadership, no state has had more secure or accurate elections than Nebraska.

    A second major Democratic challenger in Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District has officially announced his campaign for the seat currently held by Republican Rep. Don Bacon. State Sen. John Cavanaugh, who has represented a midtown Omaha district in the Nebraska Legislature since 2021, said he is running for Congress to stand up for working families, veterans and seniors and to stand up to President Donald Trump.

    The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is the oldest Latino advocacy agency in the country, and its only active council in Nebraska has come to an end, for now. Nebraska LULAC was started in 2018 after the immigration raids in O’Neill. For two years, State Director Elsa R. Aranda was often found in different cities working on police relations, trauma recovery and education opportunities. She was appointed to her position by then national LULAC president Domingo Garcia.

    Parts of Nebraska got some much-needed rain Monday and Tuesday, with some areas seeing as much as 5 inches. The National Weather Service Office in North Platte reported that Gates, a tiny unincorporated town in Custer County, had received 5.3 inches of rain as of 2 p.m. Tuesday. Much of the heaviest rain fell in Lincoln County, which had numerous areas that saw 3-4 inches of rain. Wellfleet, a village about 30 miles south of North Platte, recorded more than 4.5 inches.

    State Auditor Mike Foley’s office has issued eight audit letters to local governments in Nebraska calling out improper financial practices in the last six weeks. The alleged infractions include a former Cedar County Commissioner using a county pickup truck for personal business, a former Farnam village clerk not billing herself for municipal services and the Decatur Housing Authority Executive Director processing over $18,000 in excessive compensation and unsupported reimbursements to herself.
