    Three people died Friday night when a small plane crashed into the Platte River south of Fremont. The Dodge County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that the bodies of the three occupants have been recovered. Identities are not being released, pending notification of families.

    Nearly 1,800 people in Nebraska prisons will receive earlier parole eligibility dates — or become parole eligible for the first time — after a Friday decision from the Nebraska Supreme Court. The decision reversed a lower court’s ruling that parts of LB50, a comprehensive criminal justice reform effort passed by the Nebraska Legislature in 2023, were unconstitutional. LB50 accelerated parole eligibility for certain offenders and created a geriatric parole program.

During an executive session in the Legislature’s General Affairs Committee, senators failed to advance LB677, which regulates medical marijuana. The legislation comes on the heels of initiatives to legalize and regulate the substance, which both passed in November with more than two-thirds of the vote.
