Teen sextortion suspect to stand trial as adult

A 17-year-old from Hall County accused of a massive sextortion case involving multiple victims must face the charges as an adult. District Judge Andrew Butler called the teenager “an extreme threat to the security of the public.”Holum is accused of using deception and threats to convince at least 16 identified victims to provide him with explicit photos. Most of the victims are minors from the same rural community.

She used special software designed for law enforcement to extract the digital files and organize the material. She testified there appeared to be common links to a specific internet address and two cell phones in Holum's possession.
Ramos gets life sentence for 2017 prison riot murder

Before issuing his sentence, First District Court Judge Rick Schreiner told Eric Ramos he agreed with the jury that found him guilty of murder in December. Grainy video from prison security cameras provided sufficient evidence to identify Ramos as one of at least three inmates who beat and stabbed Galindo and participated in setting a cell on fire where the 31-year-old man was left to die. "The evidence was clear you were involved in the crime," Schreiner said.
Former Dundy County Sheriff challenges recall election results, seeks reinstatement in federal court

Clinton Smith, the Dundy County Sheriff voted out office in a recall election on Tuesday, asked a federal court judge in Nebraska to throw out the election results and allow him to stay in his position. In his complaint filed with the court, Smith claims his constitutional rights were violated when he failed to get certified as a law enforcement officer and when residents voted to remove him from office.

County Attorney Wine said it gives the basics "not only how to enforce the law effectively, and doing investigations effectively and prepare cases, effectively for the county attorney, but also to respect the rights of the citizens."As provided for in state laws, Smith had the option to seek certification by successfully completing training at the state’s facility in Grand Island.

Veterans Day activities set for Friday this year By Bill Kelly Sports Editor While Veterans Day is one of the few American holidays that is set on a specific date instead of the Monday closest to that date, the activities to honor local veterans in Dalhart will be held one day early this year in order to allow students from local schools to take part. That means that the Veterans Day parade and program will be held Friday November 10 instead of November 11, which falls on Saturday this year.

Lady Wolves place 4th at State in cross country By Bill Kelly Sports Editor The Dalhart Lady Wolves made their second straight trip to the Class 3A State Cross Country Meet last week, leaving on November 1 to run at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock on Friday September 3. The Lady Wolves had their best finish in a long time as they placed fourth as a team and came with a single point of third place. Dalhart placed fourth with 162 points in a field with 16 total teams and 152 total runners.

John Smithee to speak at Veteran’s Day Ceremony By Bill Kelly Editor Representative John Smithee will be the keynote speaker at this year’s Veteran’s Day Ceremony in Dalhart. Smithee will speak as part of the annual Veteran’s Day activities for Dalhart, which include a breakfast for veterans at the Dalhart Elks Lodge, a parade, and the ceremony at Central Methodist Church, and a lunch at the XIT Rangers building. The ceremonies this year will be held on Friday November 10.
NRD Board member sues district over free speech violations
