A 17-year-old from Hall County accused of a massive sextortion case involving multiple victims must face the charges as an adult. District Judge Andrew Butler called the teenager “an extreme threat to the security of the public.”Holum is accused of using deception and threats to convince at least 16 identified victims to provide him with explicit photos. Most of the victims are minors from the same rural community.

Cyber investigator Cayla Larkins of the Grand Island Police Department reviewed the content collected from the warrants. She used special software designed for law enforcement to extract the digital files and organize the material. She testified there appeared to be common links to a specific internet address and two cell phones in Holum's possession.

Before issuing his sentence, First District Court Judge Rick Schreiner told Eric Ramos he agreed with the jury that found him guilty of murder in December. Grainy video from prison security cameras provided sufficient evidence to identify Ramos as one of at least three inmates who beat and stabbed Galindo and participated in setting a cell on fire where the 31-year-old man was left to die. "The evidence was clear you were involved in the crime," Schreiner said.
Former Dundy County Sheriff challenges recall election results, seeks reinstatement in federal court

Clinton Smith, the Dundy County Sheriff voted out office in a recall election on Tuesday, asked a federal court judge in Nebraska to throw out the election results and allow him to stay in his position. In his complaint filed with the court, Smith claims his constitutional rights were violated when he failed to get certified as a law enforcement officer and when residents voted to remove him from office.

The state law provides for a minimum level of competency for sheriffs and police officers. County Attorney Wine said it gives the basics "not only how to enforce the law effectively, and doing investigations effectively and prepare cases, effectively for the county attorney, but also to respect the rights of the citizens."As provided for in state laws, Smith had the option to seek certification by successfully completing training at the state’s facility in Grand Island.
