In the early hours of Friday morning, a dejected Penn State men’s hockey team walked out of the tunnel and up the stairs of the lower bowl in the Enterprise Center. They’d just been sent home from their program’s first-ever Frozen Four practically upon arrival in St. Louis following a 3-1 loss to Boston University, but the section of family members and special guests gave them a round of applause as they appeared. Fans and players alike celebrated what Penn State’s men’s hockey program had just accomplished for the first time after 13 years of Division I hockey: clinching a spot in the Frozen Four.

On March 2, Penn State hockey celebrated 25 years of Rodney Martin being the in-arena voice of Penn State Hockey. He also serves as the announcer for Penn State football, announcing downs, distance, and scoring. Martin’s journey started as a Penn State student in 1996, where he helped out with the Hockey Management Association, which was in charge of managing the Penn State Club Hockey team. Throughout his time, he was an usher and moved into the game production side of the business.
