However, for what some dub a rebuilding project under first-year head coach Lynn Hamilton, the Bulldogs showed moments of truly being a competitive football team during Friday night’s, 28-14, non-district loss to East Rockingham at Bulldog Field.

    August 26, 1965 — The canning factory of Moyers Brothers at Stony Man has started production employing some one hundred people. Moyer Brothers are among the largest independent canners of peaches and recently have installed considerable labor saving machinery including pitters for removing seeds automatically. Brand names used for Moyer Peaches are Page Valley, Luray Caverns and Stony Man. Capacity of the plant is approximately 7,500 cases a day with a seasons production of about 100,000 cases.

    August 25, 1911 — John Hilliards, of Ingham, this county, for years a Lane Bros. foreman, killed a man recently near Jackson, Ky., in a shooting affray between members of the contractors camp and the natives. Trouble had existed for some time. During the shooting a bullet struck Hilliards’ house and to protect his family he stepped out and shot a man dead. It is a lawless section and Hilliards who is in jail cannot be bailed, though Lane Bros. have offered any amount required.

    Age 85, Elkton, Va.Madeline Virginia Dean Lam, 85, of Elkton, passed away on Thursday August 24, 2023 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. Mrs. Lam was born on November 1, 1937 in Rockingham County, and was a daughter of the late Oliver and Iris Virginia Meadows Dean. Mrs. Lam was a longtime member of the Bear Lithia Baptist Church in Elkton. She was an avid gardener, and had a green thumb. She was also a terrific cook. Madeline also enjoyed crafts.
