LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Nothing against the attendees, but the great majority are probably just there for the show. Most don’t have a real connection with horses. If Xavier Legette’s stint at the Kentucky Derby as a social correspondent for the NFL helped even one person decide to peer more intimately into the equine world, it was worth it. And it was an awful lot of fun, too.

COLUMBIA — It was a risk, one with which they felt comfortable taking. Throughout spring practice, Shane Beamer and his staff said they were confident that running back Rahsul Faison would be cleared to play for South Carolina this season, even though he was a high school senior in 2017 and has attended five schools (four colleges) since.

COLUMBIA — No place like home, to defend, or to return to. South Carolina softball did and stands to do. The No. 14 Gamecocks rose from a 13-1 run-ruled drubbing in Game 1 to take their regular-season series over No. 13 Alabama on May 3, winning the rubber match 7-2 after completing a suspended game from May 2 before it, 3-1. The second game was called in the fifth inning due to weather.
