COLUMBIA — It hasn't been the best of experiences when it comes to South Carolina and the NBA draft. The Gamecocks have mostly been ignored by the league, and since the heyday of Frank McGuire's powerhouse dwindled to just a powerful memory, the draft has usually been a time for Gamecocks fans to catch up on the new football roster. Collin Murray-Boyles will change that, as he changed USC's program.

COLUMBIA — Mean. Fast. Aggressive. Vicious. Whatever adjective chosen for South Carolina’s defensive front last year — really, the defense overall — it was appropriate. The Gamecocks were no more a sieve against the run and amazing against the pass (because teams hardly ever had to pass with the run working so well); they were equally efficient at each. USC finished 16th in the country in total defense (316.6 yards per game).

COLUMBIA — The roster’s been rebuilt. Now to see if the success can be as well. Coming off the worst SEC season in program history (2-16, part of a 12-20 stinker overall), just a year removed from one of the best (13-5 in a 26-win NCAA Tournament season in 2023-24), South Carolina knows it needs to take a major step this year. The biggest chunk of the trail was released on June 18 when the SEC announced its 2025-26 league matchups.

COLUMBIA — The SEC doesn’t want a repeat. At least, not of how the No. 1 seed in last year’s SEC Tournament was determined. As for the regular-season champion? South Carolina is used to repeating, and plans to again do so. The Gamecocks know their SEC opponents for the 2025-26 season as they attempt to win a fifth straight regular-season championship and sixth in seven years.
