The Muslim Community Association hosted its first interfaith Ramadan iftar at Patio by La Pasha. Iftar is the name of the meal eaten at sunset to break the fast during Ramadan. Friends, neighbors, and city leaders of all faiths attended the event and enjoyed each other’s company.
Houston Bookstore Crawl 2025

For the month of April, local independent bookstores are participating in the second annual Houston Bookstore Crawl in connection with Indie Bookstore Day, Saturday, April 26th. Houston’s independent bookstore community has grown significantly in the last few years, and the Bookstore Crawl is a great way to check out some of these new stores as well as visiting longtime favorites.

Prelude Music Foundation (PMF) is hosting “My First Orchestral Concert” at Miller Outdoor Theatre, April 8 and 9, at 11 a.m. Foundation founder Ana Treviño-Godfrey (pictured) established the organization to bring developmentally appropriate music to children in underserved areas in the community. Working together with the City of Houston through the Miller Theatre Advisory Board, this is PMF’s fourth annual free community concert.

Larry and Lindy Neuhaus, Gene and Mary Alford, Jennifer Boubel, Craig Brown, Sue Smith, Megan and Luke Hotze and Rob and Lauren Gray celebrated 35 years of Bo’s Place at the Hearts of Hope event at The Post Oak Hotel. More than 600 supporters gathered and raised $900,000 at the event led by chairs Mary and Gene Alford and Megan and Luke Hotze, and honorary chairs Lindy and Larry Neuhaus, Susan and Charlie Neuhaus, Mary Kessler and Henry Sauer, and Ali and Taylor Williams.

April is here, and finally we have a holiday we can all enjoy. Oh, I know, we all love Presidents’ Day in February with its riotous fun. Many of us love going to Target the day after Valentine’s Day and buying half-priced chocolate hearts. Who doesn’t like March 9 when Daylight Savings returns (maybe forever if Congress decrees it so)? But I say there is no day on the calendar as joyous as April Fools’ Day. I’ve always enjoyed pranks.
