Justin Bigham takes over the responsibility at Beebe of teaching and coaching the game of football after spending four years with the Gentry Pioneers and leading them to the playoffs in every year coaching at Gentry, Bigham is familiar with success.

    BALD KNOB — Bald Knob will be playing this season in the competitive 4A-2 Conference and the Bulldogs are picked to finish in 6th place out of 8 teams in the conference. Bald Knob football coach Lonnie Robertson says that his goal is to get the Bulldogs to a state playoff game and extend the Bulldogs’ football season. Robertson believes that one of strengths of the Bulldogs is the middle of the offensive line with senior center Aidan Quinn.

    RUSSELLVILLE — On Tuesday, the Great American Conference released the results of the 2024 women’s preseason coaches ballot. Ouachita Baptist and Oklahoma Baptist each collected three first-place votes but the Tigers edged out the Bison by one point to finish atop the poll. Last year, the Tigers captured the program’s third GAC Championship title after they defeated the regular-season champion Bison in the final.

    HOT SPRINGS — The stars aligned for Oaklawn-raced Surveillance, who recorded his biggest career victory to date in the $300,000 G3-Troy Stakes Saturday at Saratoga. Surveillance, the 3-2 favorite under Tyler Gaffalione, finished 3 ¼ lengths ahead of Outlaw Kid in the 5 ½-furlong event for older horses. The field was reduced to only five after eight horses, including 1-2 program favorite Cogburn, were scratched when the race was moved from the turf to the main track because of heavy rain Friday.

    RUSSELLVILLE — On Thursday, the Great American Conference released the results of the 2024 football preseason coaches poll. Harding, the 2023 NCAA Division II national champions, received 10 of the 11 available first-place votes. The Bisons secured the program’s and the conference’s first football national title as they produced only the eighth 15-0 season in the 50-year history of Division II history.
