    This Saturday, May 24, from 2 -5 p.m. The Painted Cat Studio is hosting LotusFest, a benefit for a young Sarnia girl named Lotus, who recently lost her mother, and her father years earlier. Kari Faubert, Lotus’ mother, passed away in February after years of health issues that required hospitalization for long periods of time. Her father, Will Amrhein passed away in 2021. Lotus is now living with her elderly grandparents.

    Controversy marred the City's launch of voting on designs for a new mural in Canatra Park. One of the designs was confirmed to be the product of algorithmic (AI) art, sparking a backlash from community members. In March, the nuSarnia Foundation approached City Council with a concept to revitalize the lifeguard station in Canatara Park with a temporary, cloth mural wrapping around the building. Following Council approval, they then put out a call for submissions from local artists.

    According to concerned Sarnia citizen George Stanko, there were serious missteps in the city’s recent purchase of a new tanker truck for the Sarnia Fire Rescue Service. He contacted The Journal with claims that a new truck could have been purchased from a company with more Canadian content for significantly less money, and on a shorter timeline.
