Public transit got a jolt on city streets Tuesday when Barrie Transit unveiled its first electric bus. “It was a very quiet and smooth ride,” said Mayor Alex Nuttall, after taking the bus from Barrie City Hall to the Tiffin Street Boat Launch. Riders will be able to use two electric buses on city streets this summer, as part of a one-year pilot project. “We want to look at how electric buses perform here in the city,” Nuttall said.

CPR started by an off-duty nurse at an Oro Station pickup truck crash Thursday night might have helped save the driver’s life. Roree Payment, Oro-Medonte Township fire chief, said emergency service crews were dispatched to the intersection of Ridge Road and Line 7 at 9:40 p.m. for a single motor vehicle collision. “Upon arrival, bystanders had removed the driver from the vehicle and began CPR,” said Chief Payment. “Fire and EMS crews took over patient care.

Over the last four years alone, Bradford landlords have been dealing with almost $1 million in unpaid rent, and the system that handles those issues is due for change if it’s going to keep up with demand.
