CHATSWORTH, N.J. (AP) — A man set wooden pallets on fire and failed to properly put them out in New Jersey's Pine Barrens, sparking a quick-moving wildfire, authorities said Thursday. Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer and Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Shawn LaTourette said the Waretown man faces aggravated arson and arson charges in the southern New Jersey wildfire, which authorities said Thursday morning grew to more than 23 square miles. Multiple people have been assaulted during violent stranger attacks in Vancouver over the last month. One incident resulted in the death of a 92-year-old man in Chinatown; another involved a Toronto woman who was attacked on the seawall. The Vancouver Police Department confirmed with Glacier Media there are one to two assaults per day throughout the city that are being classified as stranger assaults.

The Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce is on the look for a new chief executive director. On Tuesday, April 15, Leslie Courchesne announced she’ll be stepping down as leader of the non-profit organization that serves businesses and groups in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra. Courchesne, a Port Moody resident, joined the Chamber in August 2021 to replace Michael Hind, who had held the post for 11 years.
