BRIDGEPORT — A longtime Bridgeport resident who died of cancer received financial support from Swim Across the Sound during his treatments. Following his death, his daughter has decided to repay them by hosting a swim-a-thon in her father's honor. Jon Barnard, a Navy veteran who served in the Korean War, died on April 28 at the age of 87 after battling both prostate and bladder cancer. He's remembered as a family man who devoted himself to serving others in many facets throughout his life.
