More beloved in the state than hot dogs, Wisconsin brats are a barbecue, ballgame, and summer staple of the state’s cuisine. When it comes to favorite locally produced cuisine, Wisconsin brats probably rank near the top for many of the state’s residents. Bratwursts didn’t originate in Wisconsin; instead, they were brought over by German immigrants. But the Midwestern state has surely made the sausage its own. Wisconsin brats have their own unique cooking method—and even their own buns.

It’s not just you. Wisconsin ice cream really does taste better, and there’s a scientific reason why. In 1890, UW-Madison agricultural chemistry professor Stephen Babcock developed the Babcock test for determining the butterfat content of milk. The test immediately advanced the dairy industry, allowing for faster and more accurate grading of milk at markets, discouraging adulteration and thinning practices, and promoting the development of better dairy strains.

Immigrants need to answer six of the ten (from a list of 100) correctly to pass.

DID YOU KNOW ⚾️ Bernie, the Brewers’ beloved mascot, is based on a real person? It all started in June of 1970, when the Brewers–still a new team at the time–were having trouble filling Milwaukee County Stadium. Milt Mason, a 69-year-old fan, decided to sit on top of the scoreboard until the team drew a home crowd of 40,000. He was up there for 40 days, when 44,387 fans showed up on August 16 to see the Brewers’ 4–3 win over the Indians.
