An annual study by US News & World Report that takes a look at 250 cities across the nation and rates them in various categories has just been released, and some Illinois cities came out looking really good this year. It was a shaky Monday in Illinois. NBC Chicago reports that a 3.3 magnitude earthquake rattled parts of Illinois on Monday. It was in Coles and Cumberland Counties but it could be felt all the way from Urbana to Mount Vernon. Two-dozen people reported the quake, which hit around 11:43 p.m. according to the USGS. Most reports were from Neoga, Mattoon, Trilla, Charleston and Lerna, but it was also felt in areas like Decatur.

We rarely think about all the nasty little Illinois creepy-crawlies that have been AWOL since late last fall, but are waking up now and ready for action. Similar to the expression "It's not paranoia if some really is trying to kill you," it's not entomophobia (fear of bugs) if the bugs are nasty and really trying to bite/sting/suck your blood.
