STAMFORD – First Student is closing its Greenwich location since it was not awarded the Greenwich School District transportation contract, leaving 140 drivers and employees without jobs, according to the state Department of Labor. Dattco School Bus Co. of New Britain will take over after signing a contract with the school district. It has been reported Dattco has onboarded the drivers let go by First Student.

TRUMBULL – The Town of Trumbull and the state Department of Labor (DOL) have reported they are trying to help the 179 employees laid off by St. Joseph’s Center after its parent company announced it was closing the nursing home on Aug. 9. According to First Selectman Vicki Tesoro, the town’s Director of Economic and Community Development Rina Bakalar has been working with the DOL and other agencies to ensure workers receive support to find new employment.

FAIRFIELD — The local response to the Connecticut Siting Council’s decision to table a decision on United Illuminating’s plan to install monopoles in Fairfield and Bridgeport was surprise and anger. On Thursday afternoon, the Connecticut Siting Council (CSC) voted to approve a motion by UI requesting a stay on a vote regarding the utility’s plan to replace monopoles on the Fairfield to Congress Street railroad transmission line with new 115kV electric transmission lines and monopoles.

DANBURY— Danbury Student and Business Connection (DSABC) recently celebrated its 35th anniversary at its annual scholarship and awards breakfast. The June 3 event at the Amber Room Colonnade marked the nonprofit mentorship’s founding in 1990 as it awarded $1,000 scholarships to 13 graduating seniors enrolled in the mentorship program from Danbury High School, Alternative Center for Education, and Henry Abbott Technical High School.

HAMDEN – Forty-one percent of voters approve of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president, while 54% disapprove, according to the latest Quinnipiac University poll. The same poll found 39% of voters approve of the way U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, known as ICE, is doing its job, while 56% disapprove.
