RIF (101.1 FM), known as 101 WRIF: The RIFF, is a commercial active rock radio station licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to broadcast in Detroit, Michigan, and the nearby Metro Detroit area. The station is owned by Greater Boston Radio, Inc. WRIF holds a special status as a "Superpower" Class B station, boasting a powerful signal equivalent to 92,000 watts at a height of 500 feet. In comparison, current FCC regulations for Class B stations would permit WRIF to operate at a maximum effective radiated power (ERP) of 16,000 watts with an antenna reaching 268 meters. This strong signal allows WRIF to be heard as far North as Lexington, MI, and extends to Jackson, Chatham-Kent, and Lambton County in Ontario, as well as North Baltimore, Ohio, and occasionally to Delaware, Ohio in the south. The station's transmitter is situated in Southfield, a suburb of Detroit, near the intersection of 10 Mile Road and Northwestern Highway, sharing a tower with WXYZ-TV. The studios of WRIF are located in Ferndale.
