As if there wasn’t enough bad news on the Cal football front, Cal men’s basketball decided to enter the fray. With the transfer portal about to close up, Cal’s star wing Andrej Stojakovic has decided to move on from the Golden Bears. Despite the loss of Jeremiah Wilkinson to Georgia, it seemed as if Cal had steadied itself with some nice complementary pieces that could have helped Andrej’s overall game. However, Stojakovic was critical to this new version of the Bears.

In a span of 72 hours, the California Golden Bears have seen their entire running back depth chart enter the transfer portal. There’s Cal fan favorite and star Jaydn Ott, who has already made the decision to go to Oklahoma to be coached by former NFL star Demarco Murray. After Ott left, there was likely starting Cal running back Jaivian Thomas, who shockingly entered the portal hours after almost certainly being assured of being the future starter for this program.

Not even 24 hours after Jaydn Ott announced his move to Oklahoma, Jaivian Thomas, Cal’s leading rusher in 2024, and who would’ve been assured to be the starting Cal running back going into 2025, has shockingly entered the portal, meaning the top five Cal running backs have decided to leave Berkeley in three days.

The long rumored and feared decision has been made. Jaydn Ott will be Boomer Soonering in his final year of college, officially transferring to Oklahoma. It’s a bitter blow for the California Golden Bears. Ott gained folk hero status after some great 2022 performances and an outstanding 2023 campaign, then refuting offers from numerous programs to stay last year.

After Cal Men’s Swimming and Diving placed 2nd at the NCAA Championships last Saturday, the next California Golden Bears to vie for national titles are Cal Women’s Gymnastics and Cal Rugby. No.6 Cal Women’s Gymnastics (28-3), the 2024 NCAA runner-ups, are in the Alabama Regional this weekend. They will look to book a returning trip to the NCAA Championships in Fort Worth, Texas in two weeks.
