TRENTON – With the cancelation of First Fridays and Art All Night, it looked like a somewhat quiet summer was on the horizon for Trenton. However, Monday morning the City announced a full slate of activities and events for the rest of the season. The city opened the pools for the summer this week and held a celebration at Hetzel Pool to mark the occasion. A handful of city officials were on hand as well as the Trenton Community Street Team to spend time with the kids who use the pool.

TRENTON – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced Trenton is slated to get $1.99 million from President Biden’s Investing in America Agenda to clean up a former industrial site while advancing environmental justice. According to a statement from the City, this award is part of the largest-ever funding awarded in the history of the EPA’s Brownfields MARC Grant programs. Most recently, a dry-cleaning business occupied the site, but it has been vacated since 2015.

TRENTON – Since Summer started in the Capital City, violent crime has heightened, including six homicides this month. To combat this, Police Director Steve Wilson established the Summer Initiative Task Force. According to TPD’s Public Information Officer Nathan Bolognini, the initiative will aim to fight against criminal activity and the increase of violence in targeted “hot spot” areas.

TRENTON – Trenton’s Shooting Response team has opened an investigation after a man was shot Monday afternoon on Spruce Street. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the back, but is in stable condition. Authorities have no details on a suspect and no other information has been provided.

TRENTON – The homicide total in Trenton has grown to 18 after two men were announced dead due to injuries sustained by gunshot wounds. According to authorities, Jared Anderson and another victim were shot in the area of Spring and Calhoun Streets on April 12. Both victims were located and taken to the Trauma Center at Capital Health Hospital. On May 29, Anderson succumbed to his injuries. The second announced death was Louis Washington.
