The Caddo Parish Commission at its meeting Thursday agreed, though not unanimously, to acknowledge June as Pride Month. Though some this week spoke against it, the Commission passed a resolution Thursday proclaiming June as Pride Month, an annual celebration of LGBTQ+ people across the country. Members of the community, and one from the dais, made passionate appeals for its passage, some pushing back against a vocal opposition.

A bill outlawing most speeding enforcement cameras in Louisiana is on its way to the governor's desk, and his signature would put a halt to plans in Shreveport to expand the existing camera program beyond school zones. Shreveport earlier this year approved an expansion of its traffic camera program beyond its current school zone-only reach, targeting streets identified as hosting thousands of speeders a week.

A local institution training young people in the trades and other careers is kicking out its students and shutting its doors this month due to federal budget cuts. The U.S. Department of Labor last week announced contractor-operated Job Corps centers nationwide are beginning "a phased pause in operations" at 99 centers across the country, including the 45-year-old Shreveport location. SporTran unveiled the first of its new bus shelters Wednesday morning at a ceremony dedicating it to a longtime local advocate for domestic violence victims. Local leaders dedicated the new bus shelter on the corner of North Hearne Avenue and North Market Street to Petrina Gay-Jenkins, who worked for many years as outreach coordinator for the advocacy group Project Celebration. april is the cruellest month

Y'all have been so generous as I try to raise some funding to get this stray cat surgery. Mamas is doing well. Her surgery is bumped to Friday. I'm still asking for help, so please consider donating to help save this girl's leg after she got hit by a car https://t.co/lRGtJqA4vs

I've been taking care of Mamas for months. She vanished for a few days but finally limped home. The vet says her hind leg is shattered. Hit by a car. She needs surgery to save her leg. I want to do anything I can for her. Please consider helping out: https://t.co/lRGtJqA4vs
