DULUTH, Minn. — At the beginning of the month, Hawk Ridge began their annual spring count for bird species returning home. The Hawk Ridge observers and volunteers are flocking to the cliffsides of Enger Park to begin the spring count. Some of the early birds making their way back are trumpeter swans and bald eagles. Duluth specifically is one of the most populated bald eagle migration destination. Last year they had a record 12-hundred eagles documented in one day.

DECC Hosts FIRST Robotics Competition DULUTH, Minn. — The Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament Section Finals aren’t the only major events happening this week. The restaurant unsurprisingly specializes in pizza, alongside many other things. “So, pizza is our main thing. But then we have pasta and burgers and subs. A great salad bar. Appetizers, if you name it, we probably got it,” said Lora Hills, the General Manager at Coop’s Pizza. Alongside pizza, they’re also serving up that small town connection.

And with that significance, the idea of a potential 25 percent tariff increase is on their radar. “So right now, immediate impact, we’re not experiencing immediate impact. It really depends on your supplier. Our aluminum supplier uses primarily U.S. steel, so we’re not experiencing any current pricing increases. We don’t expect any Q2 price increases.

DULUTH, Minn.– Duluth Cider is one of two cideries in the Northland. And their entire cider making process happens all under one building. “It’s really nice, in the middle of Duluth Minnesota, we’re taking on cider, we’re doing it all in our cellar, and bringing it up, out the door, all over, it’s actually pretty cool,” said Kyle McKean. Duluth Cider introduced the Northland to its first cidery back in 2018.

ELY, Minn. — Former President Jimmy Carter teamed up with the Friends of the Boundary Waters during his administration, to help back up his efforts around the Boundary Water Canoe Area Wilderness. “There’s been a lot of sacrifice, a lot of victory too, and not all of those sacrifices accumulated into what we have today,” said Riley Smith. They revitalized Woodstock Bay and planted trees in the neighborhoods. “2024 was a very successful year in the city of Superior. We made a number of significant investments in our infrastructure; we developed many new housing units. And we’ve been increasing quality of life, and trying to take steps to increase affordability,” said Superior Mayor Jim Paine.

DULUTH, Minn.– Management at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center are ready for a stronger year ahead following operational challenges that lead to a million-dollar loan request from the city in 2024. “We had a lot of capital projects here that failed. So, when the DECC arena system broke, we then had to do an emergency fix for our entire AC unit for harbor side. And for a building of this nature, this is not a $20,000 dollar fix. It’s a multi hundred-dollar fix.
