A rare April winter weather system was expected to bring snow and icy conditions to much of the Panhandle-South Plains and eastern New Mexico Saturday, prompting a number of event cancellations around the region. A winter storm warning was in effect for much of the Panhandle, including Amarillo, and northwestern South Plains from 1 a.m. Saturday through 1 a.m. Sunday, with moderate to heavy snowfall. Accumulations of 4 inches, with localized snowfall ranging from 6 to 7 inches, are expected.
