WAUSAU, Wi. (WAOW) — A new dog is walking the halls at Wausau East High School. Wausau Police Department School Resource Officer Nick Stetzer and his dog Timber are a package deal, working towards creating a safe and comforting environment for students and staff at the high school. "Ever since school started she has really hit the ground running," Stetzer said. Their day is filled with more than just belly but strengthening relationships in the school building.

WAUSAU (WAOW) — The U.S. Surgeon General released an advisory about parental mental health saying most parents are struggling. According to the report, 33% of parents reported high levels of stress in the past month, compared to 20% of other adults. Parents and caregivers are dealing with stressors, including - financial strain, children's health, social media and parental isolation. "There is this myth of individualism," said Maggi Rocha, LCSW, Behavioral Health Clinic.

WAUSAU, Wis. (WAOW) — City leaders have installed crisis prevention signs on the Bridge Street bridge. According to the Marathon County Suicide and Death Review Team, there have been 12 suicide deaths by jumping from a height from 2017-2022. Recently it was recommended the team put up signs providing resources to those in crisis. Each sign has words of encouragement and the 988 crisis line phone number. Jared Thompson with the Wausau Fire Department is an advocate for suicide prevention.

MERRILL, Wis. (WAOW) — The Merrill Fire Department received more than $50,000 in funding on Tuesday. The funding comes from the state's 2% fire dues program. According to Fire Chief Josh Klug, a portion of the money will go towards funding the department's part-time fire inspector position. The position was created back in 2021, and has made a positive impact on the community since then.
