    SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. — Jury selection will take place soon for Spalding County parents accused of starving their 10-year-old son. On Monday, a court hearing was held for Krista and Tyler Schindley. Back in 2023, the Schindleys were arrested and accused of starving and neglecting their 10-year-old son to the point that he only weighed 36 pounds. Court records obtained by 11Alive stated Krista was indicted on 12 charges, including three counts of aggravated assault.

    ATLANTA — Georgia's race for governor is heating up as another contender has announced a bid to enter the fold. Democratic State Sen. Jason Esteves officially launched his campaign on Monday in a post on X. The District 35 senator prides himself on being a former teacher and small business owner who could give Georgia "a fair shot."  He and his wife own several small businesses across the state, including an urgent care clinic in the Atlanta area and restaurants in Columbus and Macon.

    ATLANTA — A woman is suing an Atlanta church and other entities for alleged labor trafficking after she claims they abused her under the guise of a ministry program. The 85-page lawsuit, filed on Monday, April 14, accuses the Atlanta Dream Center Church, Assemblies of God and other defendants of negligence and trafficking. According to the lawsuit, most of the abuse happened between 2014 and 2015. The church is located in Atlanta's Old Fourth Ward neighborhood.

    GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Gwinnett County police is revisiting a 20-year-old cold case of a missing 15-month-old girl who was allegedly kidnapped by her biological mother during a court-approved, unsupervised visit in 2005. No one has heard from Marisa Velasco or her mother since their disappearance. At the time of the incident, Marisa was in the custody of the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services, police said.
