People will soon be able to explore more of a popular tourist destination and historic location in B.C. after another section of a park has reopened. The Othello Tunnels, near Hope, were heavily damaged after an enormous volume of water went through Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park in November 2021. On June 27, the northern portion of the park will be reopening, allowing three of the five historic Othello Tunnels to be accessed.

UPDATE: 10 a.m., June 11A wildfire burning close to homes in Squamish saw minimal growth overnight. The District of Squamish shared the update on Wednesday morning just before 10 a.m."We are happy to report that there was minimal growth overnight. Winds are blowing south/southwest which works in our favour,” states a spokesperson. BC Wildfire Service says the fire is estimated at 20.2 hectares in size on Wednesday.

UPDATE 3:20 p.m.A child is dead after allegedly being struck by a speed boat while riding an inflatable tube attached to a boat off Cates Park in North Vancouver. North Vancouver RCMP confirmed on June 8 that an 11-year-old child died. "Our sincerest condolences to the child’s family and friends as they deal with this tragic loss of life,” says Cpl. Mansoor Sahak. A second child was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition. Police did not release the age of this child.

One person is dead after two boats collided near Cates Park/Whey-ah-Wichen in North Vancouver on Saturday evening. Witnesses saw six police cruisers, three ambulances and a police boat respond to the scene around 6:30 p.m. on June 7. A source confirms with North Shore News that it was a fatal boat crash. BC Coroners Service was at the scene on Saturday evening and a boating tube was on the docks.
