An estimated 300 members of The Royal Canadian Legion will meet in Kamloops this weekend for the 56th BC/Yukon Command Convention. The biennial convention will take place over three days from June 6 to 8 at the Coast Kamloops Hotel & Conference Centre, bringing together Legion branches and their members from across B.C. and the Yukon to elect a new executive, discuss business and pass resolutions that impact Legion branches.

The Kamloops chapter of the Canadian Mental Health Association is launching a new therapy service for people in the Merritt area in the wake of the 2021 flood. Beginning this fall, the CMHA will offer free mental health training to residents, Indigenous communities, organizations and service providers, thanks to funding from the Canadian Red Cross.

A network of recreational trails near Logan Lake has officially reopened some four years after it was scorched by the Tremont Creek wildfire. In 2022, Forsite Consultants Ltd. completed a preliminary assessment of the 2021 wildfire impacts to the Logan Lake Recreational Trails system and submitted an impact assessment report to the province.

The pickleballers were at it wind, rain and shine over the weekend at the 2025 Kamloops Open. Doubles teams William Emm and Ann McGrath (pictured above) and Ryan Fenrick and Dana D’Abreo went head-to-head amidst gusty conditions, finishing off their game just before a rain delay took effect. “Little windy right now. It’s as brutal as they can be right now,” Fenrick said mid-game, noting the ball is light and can change direction easily in the wind.

No deal is official yet, but Thompson Rivers University is expected to be the site of two artificial intelligence hubs over the next two years. Bell Canada says it is rolling out a network of new AI data centres across Canada with iTel, starting with a supercluster of six in B.C., including a soon-to-be facility off Mission Flats Road and two 26-megawatt centres at TRU. One of the planned 26-megawatt data centres at TRU is expected to come online next spring, with a second the following year.
