LASALLE COUNTY, Ill. — Illinois State Police are asking for the public’s help as they investigate a crash that killed a woman Monday evening on Interstate 80 near Ottawa. Investigators with ISP’s Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 are seeking witnesses or anyone with dash camera footage from the area around 6:45 p.m., May 5, near milepost 86 in the eastbound lanes. They're especially interested in footage of a black Kia Sedona van or a tractor-trailer involved in the crash.

VATICAN CITY, — Robert Prevost, a missionary who spent his career ministering in Peru and leads the Vatican’s powerful office of bishops, was elected the first American pope in the 2,000-year history of the Catholic Church. Prevost, a 69 member of the Augustinian religious order, took the name Leo XIV. He appeared on the loggia of St. Peter's Square wearing the traditional red cape of the papacy — a cape that Pope Francis had eschewed on his election in 2013.

MOLINE, Ill — The City of Moline has officially made its Compass Municipal Identification Card free of charge for all residents, aiming to make the local ID more accessible. The change, approved at Tuesday night's City Council meeting, eliminates previous application fees and opens access to anyone living in Moline, regardless of age, citizenship or immigration status. The Compass ID serves as a secondary, verifiable form of identification and is accepted by all city departments.
