ILLINOIS, USA — Natural gas customers in the Chicago suburbs and downstate Illinois are likely to see an increase in their monthly bills next year, but it's up to state regulators to decide how big a hike, if any, to approve. Nicor Gas, which serves 2.3 million customers in northern and western Illinois, requested the largest gas rate plan in state history — roughly equivalent to $7.50 per month for the average residential customer.

CLIVE, Iowa — A southeast Iowa man cashed in his winning Iowa Lottery ticket on Wednesday for a $100,000 prize after years battling health scares. Bret Chickering, 66, told the lottery he believes the winning ticket has turned his misfortune around. “It did, which usually doesn't happen. I don't usually have that good of luck!” Chickering said. “This helps a lot.” In recent years, Chickering has overcome cancer and a broken hip. “I went through cancer, I'm three years cancer-free now,” he said.

4-vehicle crash stops traffic on I-80 in Henry County, lanes reopened

HENRY COUNTY, Ill. — The west and eastbound lanes of I-80 were briefly closed Friday afternoon in Henry County as crews responded to a crash involving four vehicles, officials said. According to the Illinois State Police, officers responded to milepost 11 on eastbound I-80 around 3 p.m. on Friday. This is located in Henry County, east of I-74. WQAD's own Andrew Stutzke was caught in heavily backed-up traffic as a result of the lane closures.
