In light of the wildfires in and around Los Angeles last month, at least five D.C. restaurants took action in recent weeks to support affected victims, stepping up through organized efforts and generous contributions during a time of crisis. The Duck & The Peach, a New American restaurant located in Capitol Hill, and Slice & Pie, a New York and Detroit-style pizza joint on 14th Street, hosted fundraisers to contribute to these efforts.

D.C. has one of the opioid overdose death rates in the country. But in recent months, opioid deaths have decreased in the District for the first time since 2018, according to a report by the D.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner—and based on data from the first half of this year, it’s likely that 2024 as a whole will have significantly fewer opioid-related deaths than prior years. From 2018 to 2023, opioid-related fatalities per year almost doubled in D.C., increasing from 213 to 523.

Dear Georgetown,It’s alright to be horrified, sickened, even paralyzed by the results of the 2024 election. The range of justifiable criticisms levied against the “morally objectionable” Harris/Walz ticket does not make the notion of another Trump presidency any easier to swallow.

People from the D.C. area and across the world gathered on Pennsylvania Avenue on Sept. 28 for Fiesta D.C., an annual festival celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Initially conceived in the 1970s, Fiesta D.C. is now organized by the festival nonprofit and the mayor’s office. It celebrates the District’s Hispanic residents, who make up roughly 10% of its population.

Gender-inclusive housing is essential for the safety, health, and well-being of LGBTQ+ students at Georgetown. The editorial board calls on all undergraduate students to vote “yes” on the upcoming GUSA referendum for comprehensive gender-inclusive housing. The gender-inclusive housing referendum opens for voting on April 11 at 8 p.m. and closes on April 13 at 8 p.m., the same timeline as GUSA Senate elections.
