In light of the wildfires in and around Los Angeles last month, at least five D.C. restaurants took action in recent weeks to support affected victims, stepping up through organized efforts and generous contributions during a time of crisis. The Duck & The Peach, a New American restaurant located in Capitol Hill, and Slice & Pie, a New York and Detroit-style pizza joint on 14th Street, hosted fundraisers to contribute to these efforts.

Leisure Wild is not exactly the first word that students would use to describe Georgetown. More likely than not, it does not even crack the top 10 descriptors (ambitious, academic, and elitist are perhaps some of the terms that make up this hypothetical list). However, to Georgetown alumna Lana Nauphal (CAS ’19), the term “wild” defined life and love on campus.

On the evening of April 11, at the end of primetime, hundreds of voices counted down under their breath. Their fingers hovered over their keyboards, their eyes fixed to the screen, as they prepared to send a unified message. The silence broke at 10 p.m., when a mass of messages flooded X, formerly known as Twitter, to celebrate the 100th episode of Station 19 (2019-2024), a spin-off of the popular drama Grey’s Anatomy (2005-present).

Tensions surged on the fourth night of the Gaza solidarity encampment at George Washington University on Sunday night and into Monday morning. Barricades surrounding the encampment at University Yard (U-Yard) have been knocked down by protesters, and tents that had previously been set up on H Street were moved onto the green. Confrontations between police and protesters escalated from the relatively stable point they had been at for several days, and police presence began to increase on H Street.

In the interior of D.C.’s first all-vegan Cajun restaurant, Glenn Miller’s “In the Mood” hums through the speakers. Six shelves of still-growing microgreens are placed in front of the window, labeled “Rainbow Radish,” “Broccolini,” and “Super Spicy Greens.” A full-length mirror, complete with a French Quarter-style gilded casing, frames half a dozen small wicker tables.

It’s notoriously difficult for bluegrass bands to fill out big venues. Although the genre has its share of rising stars—including artists like Allison Kraus, Trampled by Turtles, and Billy Strings—bluegrass’s limited commercial popularity can put an upper limit on ticket sales. On the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and M Street, people have places to be. The sounds of the intersection abound: the chatter of business calls, cheerful families, and the occasional car honk. Almost everybody walks through Georgetown’s busiest intersection with rushed purpose, their heads lowered and feet pointed toward one of the myriad shops or restaurants. Few of them stop, and even fewer notice—or allow themselves to notice—the young man breathing life into a rusted saxophone.
