HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KAKE) - A former hotel that has received numerous reports of nuisances and vandalism spanning years will be demolished later this week. The former Atrium Hotel and Conference Center will begin on Friday. The announcement comes following the Hutchinson City Council's decision in August to declare the Atrium as unsafe and dangerous, and an October vote to move forward with demolition. The hotel was closed in December 2019, with utilities being shut off the following month.

MCPHERSON, Kan. (KAKE) - A McPherson home has been declared a total loss after a fire Tuesday morning. Firefighters were dispatched to the 1400 block of Briarwood Lane around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a house fire. Upon arrival, crews encountered a strong fire from a two-car garage attached to the home. Crews worked to extinguish the fire in the garage, while also extinguishing flames that had spread to the exterior wall of the neighboring house to the north.

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - As of Monday, the conservation pool at Cheney Reservoir is 57.2% full, a decrease of 2.5% over the month. While that's not a good sign for the drought, the city is taking the opportunity, while the water level is low, to make needed repairs to the lake's dam. Wichita City Council members voted unanimously Tuesday to approve repairs for the dam, which are estimated to cost around $14 million.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KAKE) - The Kansas City, Missouri Fire Department has identified the firefighter who died in the line of duty this week. KMBC-TV reports that Kyle Brinker, 33, died after suffering a medical emergency during a training exercise on Tuesday. Brinker was an 11-year veteran of the Rescue Division at Station 35, one of the busiest stations in the city. Most recently, he was assigned to the Technical Rescue Division.

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A trailer containing equipment belonging to a band that was performing at the Cotillion last week has been recovered. Police found a U-Haul trailer containing approximately $21,700 worth of band equipment belonging to Post Sex Nachos after being stolen from an east Wichita hotel last Thursday. The trailer, which was attached to a van, was parked at the hotel after the band finished performing. The band reported the theft the next morning.
