Learning people’s stories is what Patricia Enos of Marion enjoys about her job. Patricia and her husband Daryl own River Mill Woods at the Chisholm Trail Center (CTC) in Newton. She gets to know people’s stories through her side of the business, which is framing pictures and taking orders for shadow boxes used to display various items like snakeskins or family heirlooms. Other items they bring to Patricia include family photos, memorabilia from trips and their kids’ high school sports medals.

Kris Schmucker recalled that when she was growing up, New Year’s Day wasn’t a big deal in the Mennonite community where she grew up. “We’d go to church in the evening, and we’d have a slideshow reviewing the year, and we ate New Year’s Cookies,” Schmucker said about people who attended Alexanderwohl Church in rural Goessel. “They have stopped doing that in the last 10 years.

An accident earlier this afternoon backed up northbound traffic just north of the outlet mall in Newton. The scene should be cleared up within a couple of hours, it was noted onsite. At least two vehicles were involved and a semi-truck was jack-knifed in the middle of the northbound traffic. More information will be released when we get it.
