A Lyon County jury says Adam Jay Hrabik is guilty of trying to kill a police officer over four years ago. The jury convicted Hrabik on single counts of attempted capital murder and aggravated assault, use of a deadly weapon, after Hrabik shot two people in Lyons in October 2020. Hrabik was charged after shooting Lyons Police Officer Cory Ryan several times, leading to critical injuries before Ryan improved. Hrabik was also charged after shooting Brian Friess, a former teacher and coach of Hrabik.

The tents are now open. Emporia’s annual fireworks sales and discharge period started at 10 am and now goes through 10 pm July 5. Concrete work is starting soon as part of a city of Emporia project. The city’s annual Concrete Street Repair Project is designed to remove or rehab what the city calls deteriorated concrete. This will highlight 10 street segments or intersections across town:*Weaver Street (Railroad to West 6th Avenue). *15th Avenue (Lincoln Street to Lawrence Street). *West Ridge Court and South Parkway Court Intersection. *Monterey Drive approach at Coronado Avenue. *Montezuma Court approach at Coronado Avenue.

Just at Mary Herbert Education Center, nearly 90 years of experience is packing up and heading out with the retirements of Superintendent Allison Anderson-Harder, Assistant Superintendent for Teaching, Learning and Student Services Judy Stanley and Director of Human Resources Jared Giffin. Anderson-Harder started her career as a school counselor and psychologist before joining the district administrative team.

The Sertoma Club plans to restart its miniature train season this weekend.
