Big changes on the way for Colorado as snow moves back into the state "If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes." We've all heard the saying before, and today that will ring quite true as Colorado prepares for a big shift in our weather pattern. It has been above-average with mostly dry days across the state, but by Thursday night, that all changes. Fire weather for some will turn to Winter Weather Advisories as a cold front advances in late Thursday.

After a wet start to the day across the Denver metro area, gradual clearing will give way to a sunny sky by Monday afternoon. High temperatures will warm to the upper 50s to low 60s under that sunshine. Those highs are just shy of seasonal averages. Temperatures only continue to climb through the mid-week, warming into the 70s under the influence of high pressure.

Warm, windy, and dry weather for Wednesday afternoon has prompted the First Alert Weather Team to call a First Alert Weather Day for Wednesday. The Denver metro area is among several areas under Red Flag Warnings on Wednesday afternoon. Relative humidity will drop to roughly 10-15%, while winds are forecast to gust as high as 45 mph at times this afternoon. High temperatures will again climb to above-average levels, reaching the low to mid-70s across the Front Range.

The start of the work week marks the beginning of a warming trend across the state. After last week's active, wet weather, this week brings more mild, dry, and warmer-than-normal conditions to Colorado. Last week, an ever-present low-pressure system hung over the region, bringing more active, wet, and cooler weather with it. This week, that is all edged out by high pressure. The sinking air within the high-pressure system brings the calm and quiet weather along with it.

It's opening day for the Colorado Rockies in Denver on Friday, and the weather will be typical spring weather in Colorado. Cool and cloudy, with a bit of a breeze, and there are chances of rain and snow throughout the day. It is also the second of three First Alert Weather days this week because of the typical atypical weather. High temperatures will only climb into the upper 30s to low 40s, with wind gusting up to 30 miles per hour at times.

So it begins. Wind gusts and rain across the Denver area. While the rain/snow will clear out by the mid afternoon, wind dominates the day. Strongest winds will be out East with the mountains seeing heavy snow and gusty wind. #cowx @DaveCBSColorado @LaurenCBS4 @CBSJoeWeather https://t.co/taPNCMDrli

Lyons, Longmont, and Boulder seeing some gusty winds right now. Unfortunately this will be the trend throughout the day. At least it will be warmer again this afternoon! #cowx https://t.co/SZDerkANG7
