These new critters are really making a splash. The Long Island Aquarium is offering the public a chance to name an adorable batch of siblings, two pairs of boy and girl North American river otters, for a very touching reason. “We picked 4 fruit-themed names for the two girls, in honor of their grandmother, Jelly, who lived at the Aquarium starting in 2008,” spokesperson Darlene Puntillo told The Post of the mammal that passed away from cancer years ago.

A laboratory on Long Island has found a breakthrough in the fight against pancreatic cancer that can “intercept” its spread. Now Amy Pollaci, whose father Bill Reindl was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer last summer, has new hope with this discovery. “It’s a golden ticket, a second chance,” she told Fox 5 News. Experts at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory have discovered a way to block threatening biological factors associated with another critical protein called KRAS.

The Amityville School District on Long Island has been strong-armed into changing its beloved Warriors nickname under a state Board of Regents mandate to rid every school in New York of Native American logos. Last week, the Suffolk County district officially rebranded itself as the Hawks, which is meant to show “a powerful symbol of strength and courage,” according to a release on the news.
