    Fishing boat runs agroundA 40-foot commercial fishing boat ran aground near Ventura Harbor on May 25. The incident happened shortly after 12:30 p.m. near the mouth of the Santa Clara River. Fortunately, the three people on board were successfully rescued. Officials with the Ventura Harbor Patrol said the vessel was considered a salvage operation and was handed over to TowBoatUS Ventura for recovery later that afternoon.

    Oxnard’s historic Japanese Cemetery, established in 1908, was designated Ventura County Landmark No. 18 in 1971 by the Ventura County Cultural Heritage Board (CHB), which decades later has bestowed a new honor on the people who care for the sacred space.
