From just about the beginning, the Simi Valley Family YMCA had outgrown its facility. Twenty-five years later, YMCA leaders want to expand by more than 15,800 square feet as part of a $7.5 million capital project. The facility at 3200 Cochran St. will add a full-size gymnasium, fitness studios, an inclusive playground, family locker rooms and more.

The man was identified Thursday as Akinyela Sawa Taylor, a U.S. citizen and military veteran. A U.S. citizen was shot and killed Thursday after hijacking a small airplane in Belize at knifepoint and stabbing three people on board, officials in Belize and the U.S. confirmed. The man brandished a knife while the Tropic Air plane was airborne while demanding that the pilots take him out of the country, Police Commissioner Chester Williams told journalists, according to Reuters.

Two Ventura County sheriff’s deputies were arrested in late March after a fight at a bar in Camarillo that sent a bouncer to the hospital. The two deputies, Anthony Malagon and Dylan Davis, were at the El Rey Cantina in Old Town Camarillo a little after midnight on March 30, according to a statement released April 16 by Sheriff Jim Fryhoff. Both men were off duty.
