A food hub in South Seattlethat would offervital storage space and services to local farmers and hunger relief groups and has been in the works for nearly a decade has been canceled because of funding uncertainty at the federal level. Food Lifeline, the fiscal sponsor of the South Seattle Community Food Hub, received a $4 million reimbursement grant in 2022 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to fund the project’s construction. The hub was expected to open in fall 2026.

An Olympia resident, who came to the United States from the Philippines as a child and is a lawful permanent resident, has been detained at Sea-Tac International Airport for more than four days. Maximo Londonio, 42, immigrated to the country as a 12-year-old boy. He was pulled aside Thursday by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents after returning from a trip to the Philippines with his wife and youngest daughter, advocates said.

A King County Superior Court judge on Monday denied a request to overturn the sale of the former headquarters of the Seattle Black Firefighters Association, which has been at the center of a bitter legal battle dividing active and retired members for more than three years. The association, a dues-paying membership group aimed at supporting the city’s Black firefighters and strengthening the pipeline of firefighters of color, sold the property to a real estate developer in October.
