A 32-year-old Army Special Forces soldier, who fell 100 feet while training on Pinnacle Peak near Mount Rainier, was airlifted to an Army hospital Friday. The soldier, a member of the Army’s 1st Special Forces Group, broke his leg in the fall during mountaineering practice in Mount Rainier National Park, according to a U.S. Navy statement released Wednesday. Whidbey Island Naval Air Station officials received the call to help in the rescue around 10:50 a.m. Saturday.

Two Bremerton women face 14 federal charges in connection with a “massive” identity theft scheme involving over 270 victims, acting U.S. Attorney Teal Luthy Miller announced Tuesday. Investigators believe Heather Marquis, 36, and Emily Vranic, 33, defrauded at least 278 people across Kitsap and Mason counties from April 2019 to November 2024. Authorities say they stole about $620,000.

A fire damaged the former home of Queen Sheba restaurant and bar Tuesday afternoon on Capitol Hill. Crews responded around 2:50 p.m. to a report of flames on the first-floor exterior of the building at East John Street and Broadway. As of 3 p.m., the fire was under control, though crews were checking how badly it had scorched the building, according to a Seattle Fire Department post on X.

A man is in critical condition after being shot in the chest in Seattle's Sodo neighborhood Sunday morning, according to police. The man had a gunshot wound when he approached King County sheriff's deputies about 9 a.m. at the Stadium light rail station, in the 500 block of South Royal Brougham Way, a post on the Seattle Police Department's blotter says. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center. Police spokesperson Detective Brian Pritchard said the man was between 20 and 30 years old.
