The Gold Coast's public health unit has raided stores on the tourist strip, seizing vapes and tobacco. Raids were carried out on stores at Southport, Mermaid Beach, Broadbeach and Nobby Beach, leading to the closure of five tobacconists. Three-day closure notices have been stuck to the front of the stores. Gold Coast smoke shops have been forced to shut after a city-wide crackdown targeting allegedly illegal tobacco and vapes.

A search for prominent South East Queensland police officer Jay Notaro will continue today after the detective inspector went missing in the surf off northern New South Wales. Authorities began looking for the 45-year-old at Broken Head about 12.40pm on Tuesday after Mr Notaro's surfboard was found abandoned and his vehicle was located in the beach car park. Areas between Cape Byron and Lennox Head were scoured yesterday and the search will continue on Wednesday.
