There's been a backlash to Dorset Council's announcement to introduce a new system for tips across Dorset to pre-book trips in advance with many calling for the idea to be shelved. A Dorset Echo poll has shown that a whopping 96 per cent of readers disagree with the plans. Defending the plan, Dorset Council says it is facing "serious financial pressures" and that the new system - to be introduced in the autumn - will be 'fairer for Dorset taxpayers' and save money.

Residents on Portland have been campaigning for the restoration of St Peter’s Church on Grove Road. The long-disused church, now privately owned, has been left in a state of disrepair for a number of years after being the target of vandals, storms and a fire to its crypt.
