In the last couple of months, federal agencies have issued a flood of new rules to bolster renewable energy and conserve natural landscapes. Taken together, the raft of administration actions represents a truly historic, unprecedented presidential commitment to environmental protection.

Wesley Brown was standing on the desert floor last spring, looking up at a friend who was 100 feet into an ascent of a towering Utah cliff wall, when a Golden Eagle soared overhead. It was a powerful moment for Brown: his first close encounter with a raptor since he began working as a climber steward, a role that involves educating his peers about how to better care for the Indian Creek Special Recreation Management Area and the birds of prey that nest there.

In late January, when Representative John Curtis kicked off his campaign for the Utah Senate seat vacated by Mitt Romney, he spoke to a crowd made up mostly of his fans. About 300 people packed into a space owned by an Orem, Utah, pest control company, and many of them had been Curtis supporters since he was elected mayor of Provo in 2010.

You could spend a lifetime traveling the world to see them—or you can watch them from your kitchen table through live wildlife cams. March 3 is World Wildlife Day, proclaimed in 2013 by the United Nations General Assembly.
