KINGSPORT — Just in time for summer, Kingsport Junction celebrated its grand opening and ribbon cutting on Friday afternoon. City representatives, community members and food truck owners alike gathered at the new food truck space to commemorate more than a year’s worth of effort. The ribbon cutting kicked off the park’s weekend-long festivities.

KINGSPORT — Friday marked the end of an era for the Kingsport Public Library as it closed its doors downtown for an estimated two years during renovations. The library will be closed from May 10 to June 1 during the library’s move to the Fort Henry Mall. KINGSPORT — Another brick wall in Kingsport is the latest canvas for local artist Joseph Maye. His most recent mural, completed on May 3, includes subtle nods to Kingsport’s landscape and the owner of the building’s heritage. The design can be seen on the side of Hyder’s Tailor Shop, located at 401 E. Sullivan Street. “The mural was commissioned by the owner of the building and a close friend of mine,” Maye said.

KINGSPORT — At Tuesday’s voting meeting, the Kingsport Board of Mayor and Alderman approved a resolution to purchase the police department with 13 all-wheel drive replacement units. The resolution states eight marked units, one unbudgeted marked unit and four unmarked units, totaling $732,061. Delivery from the dealership to the agency is included in the price, according to the resolution; units are expected to right six to seven months after the purchase orders are received.
