    KINGSPORT — For the 79th year, the Kingsport Lions Club hosted its annual turtle derby on Saturday. Twenty one rounds of races all lead up to the final turtle derby, which include the fastest turtle winners from throughout the event. Each turtle is sponsored by a business or individual. Held at J. Fred Johnson Stadium, the 2025 Bob Miller Memorial Turtle Derby was named after the longtime Lions Club member and former president and district governor for East Tennessee.

    KINGSPORT — The Miss Kingsport and Miss Sullivan County Scholarship Pageant is looking for contestants entering its 71st year. Mary Hamilton, the program’s longtime executive director, said the event will be held this year at 7 p.m. on July 12 at Ross N. Robinson Middle School. She said eligible contestants must be between 17 and 26 years old, unmarried and able to represent Kingsport and Sullivan County at local events — as well as attend Miss Tennessee next year.

    KINGSPORT — Representatives from Domtar and Hull Property Group are scheduled to be at Tuesday’s Kingsport Economic Development Board meeting, according to the meeting agenda released Friday. Charlie Floyd, vice president of strategic capital projects for Domtar, is listed on the agenda to provide a regular update to the board on Project Bandit — the planned anaerobic digester to aid with odor mitigation efforts at the Kingsport mill.

    KINGSPORT — Rural King has issued a statement following the community’s concern over a 1% “economic development fee” implemented at the Kingsport store. The company’s statement said the fee helps them “offset a small portion of the significant investment” into Kingsport.
