She will be at the New Madrid Historical Museum from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, and welcomes readers of all ages to come get their book signed by her and to meet the readers. During this book signing, sales of her book will go to benefit the New Madrid Historical Museum.

Connection Point Church in Jackson has been listed in an Outreach magazine article among the 100 fastest-growing churches in the United States. Each year, the Lifeway Research team surveys churches, verifies the numbers, calculates the results and compiles the lists stated in the article on its website. In preparation for this annual report, they solicited participation from more than 10,000 churches.

Robert A. Johnston, also known as BJ Johnston, will be coming to Cape Girardeau and Jackson to perform a one-man play called The Life of John Wesley: The Man from Aldersgate. Johnston said the production is usually 80 minutes long. He said all of the words in the play are taken directly from the journals of John Wesley, a British cleric. Johnston is a reenactor, or, as he calls himself, a storyteller who worked with a playwright to tell Wesleys life.

The SEMO District Fair has announced the cancellation of Fridays Sept. 13, hot rod truck & tractor pull event. Refunds will be awarded to those who purchased advance tickets for this event. The carnival and all other events will go on as scheduled, weather permitting, according to the release. Vendors also will be on the grounds, weather permitting. Weather already affected parts of the entertainment portion of the fair as the performance by Elton Dan and the Rocket Band was canceled Thursday, Sept.

CHAFFEE Jon Rodgers, a junior high and high school science teacher in the Chaffee School District, recently completed the Nourish the Future yearlong leadership program along with 37 others from around the country. The program helps show and teach educators how to connect students with modern agriculture through STEM Science, technology, engineering and mathematics education, aiming to inspire students to learn science, solve problems and explore careers in agriculture.

Special Olympics Missouri (SOMO) surprised longtime athlete Lucas Blattel with some big news Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the SEMO District Fair. Blattel was told he will be inducted into the Special Olympics Missouri Hall of Fame this coming November. In attendance for this moment were his family, friends and co-workers. He is known for his commitment both on and off the field and has competed in nearly every sport offered in Cape Girardeau, according to the news release.

Old Town Cape Inc.'s annual senses-centric fundraiser is returning next month. Revivify will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Ivers Square in Cape Girardeau. The event is a big part of the fundraising for Old Town Cap, Inc., as it funds the organization's revitalization efforts in downtown. Saturday, Sept. 7, the Cape Girardeau Police Department will be implementing special traffic arrangements for the 2024 SEMO District Fair for vehicles entering and exiting the Arena Park area according to a news release. There will be No Parking signs around Arena Park on Friday, Sept. 6, and the change will be enforced starting at 6 a.m. on Saturday. Any vehicles parked in a No Parking or Restricted Parking area will be towed away at the owners expense, and a traffic ticket may be issued.
